Nylon fibers
are popular with
decoy
flocking and rod makers.
They are also excellent for lining boxes, picture
framing, auto restoration, and anywhere the traditional
rayon fibers may be used. Because of their unique
qualities and slightly longer length, nylon fibers
are priced slightly higher than the traditional rayon
fibers. They are available in a variety of colors.
Application
of the flocking fibers is identical for both Nylon and
Rayon, using the same DonJer undercoat adhesive and
application equipment.

To Apply Suede-Tex
Soft
Flock® Rayon flocking fibers

Soft Flock®
uses the same rayon fibers as
Suede-Tex and is available in the same colors (see
color chart).
The difference is in the adhesive and
the applicator.
The Soft
Flock® fibers are packaged in individual
zippered plastic bags containing 1/2 oz. of product. One package
will cover approx. 2 sq. ft (based on reclaiming and reusing). The
Soft
Flock®
water based adhesive is a clear, acrylic glue available in either a 4 oz. squeeze
bottle or a 16 oz. jar. A handy, reusable applicator
bottle for the Soft
Flock®
fibers is also available. Click

Spray-on
Applicators
Spraying the fibers onto the surface is the least demanding in terms of engineering and probably the easiest to get started. Using either DonJer's
Mini Flocker or Air-Assisted Spray Gun to spray on the fibers will create an
even, suede-like finish.
The Mini Flocker is completely manual; the Air-Assisted Spray Gun requires a compressor with a regulator capable of reducing the pressure to 15 psi.

| Electrostatic
Applicators
The electrostatic process (either battery or AC operated) uses a positive charge, which is generated from the applicator, drawn to a negative ground. This is achieved by either grounding directly to the piece if you are working on metal, or grounding to a metal backing (e.g., aluminum foil) behind the piece if working on a non-conductive surface. The fibers are introduced into this field from the applicator and will follow the current to the surface.
The electrostatic method will produce a denser coating with because the fibers are oriented at 90 degrees to the surface, achieving a more velvet-like feel and appearance. (The one limitation to this process is the inability of the fibers to coat 90 degree angles or less. This can be overcome by spraying the fibers into these areas AFTER applying the electrostatic finish.)
Both methods will leave an attractive, even coating. The main difference in the finish is the feel of the fibers. The electrostatic surface will feel
more like velvet and the sprayed surface more like suede.
